Responsible Gambling
Most of our players treat the casino like a movie ticket — an evening's entertainment with a price tag. For a small share it stops being entertainment and starts to cost more than it should. This page is for that share, and for everyone who wants to set a guardrail before the question even comes up. Every tool listed here is free, takes under a minute, and is enforced by the system, not by your willpower.
Our Commitment to Player Protection
Bovada is licensed by the Government of Curacao and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and operates under the safer-gambling standards of both regulators. The minimum age to register or play is 18. Every account is screened against self-exclusion registers; if you have asked to be excluded with us, the system will not let you re-register under a new email or address. Our customer support is trained to spot risky patterns and to refer you to the tools below rather than to talk you out of a withdrawal.
Recognising the Signs
Common signs that play has crossed a line: spending more than you planned and not stopping; chasing losses to "get even"; lying about how often or how much you play; borrowing to fund deposits; missing work, sleep or social time because of casino sessions. One sign is a flag; two or more is a pattern. Tools below help with the pattern, not the flag — but if any of this feels familiar, today is a good day to set a limit.
Deposit, Loss, Wager and Session Limits
Open Account → Limits to set four ceilings: daily / weekly / monthly deposit limit, loss limit (max net loss in a period), wager limit (max amount staked in a period), and session limit (how long you can stay logged in before you are kicked out). Lower limits take effect immediately; raising a limit takes 24 hours so the decision is not made in the moment.
Reality Checks and Time-Out
Reality checks are pop-ups that show how long you have been playing, how much you have wagered and your net win/loss. Default is every 60 minutes; you can set it as low as 10. Time-out pauses your account for 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or a custom date. During time-out you cannot deposit, bet or open the cashier; withdrawals on pending balances still work.
Self-Exclusion
Self-exclusion is a longer break: 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or permanent. Self-exclusion blocks deposits, bets and any new account at Bovada under the same identity. Marketing emails and SMS stop within 48 hours. Permanent self-exclusion is permanent; we cannot reverse it for you, even on appeal. Choose the shortest period that fits — you can always extend it from inside the locked account.
KYC Before First Withdrawal
We verify identity before the first cashout, not on every withdrawal after. This protects against account takeover and against children using a parent's card. Upload a government ID and a recent utility bill from your account dashboard; verification takes 1–3 working days. Verified accounts cash out without document delays from then on.
US Help Resources
If you want to talk to a trained counsellor confidentially and at no charge, the National Council on Problem Gambling runs a 24/7 helpline:
- National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) — directory of state programs, online chat, text support to 1-800-GAMBLER.
- 1-800-GAMBLER — 24/7 phone, chat and text, all states.
- National Problem Gambling Helpline: 1-800-522-4700.
- Gamblers Anonymous — peer-support meetings in person and online.
- BetBlocker — free software that blocks gambling sites and apps on your devices.
Tools For Family Members
If you are worried about somebody else's play, you cannot self-exclude them — that has to come from the player. You can install BetBlocker on shared devices, talk to NCPG counsellors who run a family helpline, and check our Privacy Policy for what data we can share with you (the answer for adults is usually "very little"). Family support meetings run through Gam-Anon, listed on the NCPG site.
